Dengue fever around the world: Mexico and Honduras

Dengue fever cases, deaths and outbreaks are being reported by the following countries and places:

Mexico

• Baja California Sur - over 4,000 cases; most affected municipalities include La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondu, Mulege, and Loreto.
• Sonora - 4,070 cases with 12 deaths; most affected municipalities include Hermosillo, Cajeme, Guaymas, and Caborca 338.

Honduras - along the border with El Salvador, 5,372 cases

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
