Cases and outbreaks of dengue fever with associated deaths continue to be reported from:

• Fiji
• Brazil (Rio de Janeiro State)
• Brazil (Sao Goncalo, Rio de Janeiro State)
• Brazil (Rio de Janeiro City, Rio de Janeiro State)
• Brazil (Sao Paulo City, Sao Paulo State)

Travellers to these countries can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
