Dengue fever cases and deaths continue to be widespread in multiple countries

Dengue fever cases, deaths and outbreaks have been reported from the following coutnries:

• Philippines (Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental province)
• Sri Lanka
• Malaysia
• Peru (Pasco)
• Brazil (Rio de Janeiro municipality, Rio de Janeiro state)

Travellers to these countries can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
