Dengue fever cases concern health officials in Sri Lanka

The registration of almost 11,000 people suspected to be infected with dengue fever virus during the 1st 2 months of 2016 is disconcerting. According to health officials, transmission of the virus is increasing with 51% of all cases reported by the Western Province.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
