Dengue fever cases continue to increase in Peru

Dengue fever in Peru has caused 32 known deaths and 21,445 reported cases. The tropical region of Ucayali has been the most affected with an average of 125 new cases diagnosed daily. Due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there may be many more cases in the community than are reported. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
