Cases*, deaths and outbreaks due to dengue fever have been reported in the following countries:

Mexico (Guerrero, Veracruz, Michoacan, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Taumalipas and Campeche)
Costa Rica
Honduras
Dominican Republic
Argentina
Bolivia (Tarija Department)
Brazil (Minas Gerais - Uberaba; Piaui)
Colombia (Antioquia, Norte de Santander, Huila, Tolima, Valle, Cundinamarca)
Ecuador
Paraguay (Paraguari)
Venezuela (Aragua, Carabobo, Lara, Zulia, Portuguesa, Barinas, Trujillo, Miranda.)

*Note: There may be more cases in other countries (e.g., Caribbean islands) and in other states or departments within countries. Counting and reporting of cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
