Cases, deaths and outbreaks of dengue fever have been reported from the following countries:

Mexico (Yucatan, Michoacan, Morelos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and Queretaro states)

Honduras (Choluteca Department)

El Salvador (San Salvador)

Colombia (Meta Department)

Venezuela (Miranda State)

Peru (Chimbote, Ancash region, Carabaya, San Martin region)

Paraguay (Central Department)

Brazil (Mato Grosso and Parana States; Rio Claro, Sao Carlos, and Araras in Sao Paulo state)

Dominican Republic (national)

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
