Dengue fever cases double in Singapore

The total number of cases of dengue fever reported as of January 12th this year is 342. Of these 208 cases were reported in last week alone. This total is 2 1/2 times the number reported for the same time period last year. Due to the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there may be many more cases in the community than are reported. Travellers to Singapore can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
