Dengue fever cases in Cambodia more than double last year's total

In the past 10 months of this year, a total of 39,290 cases of dengue fever have been reported. This total is more than double the number of cases recorded last year. A total of 170 children, mostly between the ages of 5 and 14, died as a result of this disease. Due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there may be many more cases in the community than are reported. Travellers to Cambodia can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
