Dengue fever cases in Jalisco, Mexico, raise concerns for possible larger outbreak (warning)

To date, health authorities in Jalisco have reported a total of 75 cases of dengue fever. However, 5 of these have had the serious form of the disease, dengue haemorrhagic fever. Authorities are concerned that conditions exist for a much larger outbreak in the near future.

Travellers to this area can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
