Dengue fever cases increase in New Caledonia

In the month of January, 965 cases of dengue fever were reported. In the first 11 days of February, 470 cases were registered. There may be many more cases. Counting and reporting cases of dengue may be hampered by lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
