Dengue fever cases reported in metro Manila, Philippines

There have been 1,537 cases of dengue reported in Metro Manila (Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila and Pasay). Although this number is less than the same time period last year, authorities are warning that they expect an upsurge in cases during the rainy season. There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
