Dengue fever causes 14 deaths in central Mindanao, Philippines

Fourteen people in Health Region 12 (North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani, and the cities of Tacurong, Cotabato, Gen. Santos, Cotabato, Koronadal and Kidapawan) in Central Mindanao have died due to dengue fever. So far this year, there have been 1, 291 cases reported.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
