Dengue fever causes concern in Cuernavaca, Mexico

Health officials have advised public to take preventive measures against dengue fever after reporting 39 cases of the disease. Seven of these cases have a serious life-threatening complication of dengue fever known as dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Travellers to this area can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
