Dengue fever common in Sri Lanka.

Health officials have recorded a total of 3,697 cases of dengue in July alone. So far in 2011, there have been 13,975 cases while 112 patients have died. Colombo has been the most affected area with 5,454 patients and 51 deaths. In Gampaha district, 2,031 patients have been registered with 16 deaths.

Travellers to this area should be aware of the risk of exposure to dengue and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
