Dengue fever commonly found in Philippines, e.g., Metro Manila and Surigao del Norte

A total of 4,042 cases of dengue fever with 10 deaths has been reported from the metropolitan area of Manila. The most affected areas include Quezon City, Manila City, and Caloocan City. In Surigao del Norte Province, there have been 181 cases in what is an increasing trend. Many other provinces have reported large numbers of dengue fever cases. There may be many unreported cases in many areas of the Philippines since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
