Dengue fever concerns in Kerala, India

Many suspected cases of dengue are being reported in Kannur recently, but only 4 cases have been confirmed by laboratory testing. However, in the district, there have been 88 cases of dengue and at least 520 suspected cases. The beginning of the monsoon season also increases the risk of exposure to dengue fever virus.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
