Dengue fever continues in Brazil

In Brazil:

  • The Federal District (Distrito Federal) is reporting almost 5,000 cases of dengue fever.
  • In Minas Gerais (city of Uberlandia), there are reports of more than 4,500 cases.
  • São Paulo State continues to report significant numbers of dengue fever cases from many municipalities including São Paulo City, Tambau, Casa Branca, Boa Esperança do Sul, Ribeirao Bonito, Brotas, Itobi, and Itaporanga, where a dengue health emergency has been declared.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
