Dengue fever continues in Central America (Honduras, Panama and El Salvador) - update

Dengue fever cases, outbreaks and deaths continue to be reported from the following countries:

  • El Salvador - 377 cases so far this year.
  • Honduras - 1,174 cases so far this year. The most affected municipalities include Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.
  • Panama - 2,906 cases. Many cases of dengue fever are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
