Dengue fever continues in state of Ceará, Brazil

So far this year, 127 of the 184 municiplaities in the state of Ceará have reported a total of almost 7,900 cases of dengue fever, along with 49 deaths. The most affected municipalities include: Araripe, Alto Santo, Arneiroz, Brejo Santo, Campo Sales, Icó, Jaguaribara, Lavras da Mangabeira, Nova Olinda, Pereiro, Parambu, Santana do Cariri, Tauá and Umari.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
