Dengue fever continues in various states in Brazil

Cases and outbreaks of dengue fever have been reported in the following states (and municipalities): Acre, Alagoas, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais (more than 30,000 cases), Paraná (Maringa), Piaui, and São Paulo (Campinas with almost 40,000 cases and Sao Paulo City with more than 13,500 cases). At least 1 or more deaths have been reported in all these states.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
