Dengue fever continues to be a risk in multiple states in Brazil

Municipalities in the following states in Brazil continue to report outbreaks of dengue fever with many cases and considerable deaths:

  • Paraná
  • Mato Grosso
  • Minas Gerais (large epidemic with over 240,000 cases and 97 deaths)
  • São Paulo
  • Bahia
There may be many unreported cases since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
