Dengue fever continues to be reported from several departments in Colombia (summary)

Dengue fever cases continue to be reported from the following departments:

  • Bolivar - 27 cases in Arenal municipality and 54 cases in Arjona municipality.
  • Santander - 3,215 cases; 27 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever, 1 death. Most affected municipalities include metropolitan Bucaramanga, Barrancabermeja, Floridablanca, Piedecuesta, and Giron.
  • Valle de Cauca - 4,184 cases; 158 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever. Most affected municipality is Cali.
    There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
