Dengue fever continues to concern officials in Karnataka and Odisha States, India

Both Karnataka and Odisha States have reported significant numbers of cases and deaths due to dengue fever. In the former, there have been 2,849 cases and 9 deaths while in the latter, there were 66 cases. There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
