Dengue fever continues to increase in São Paulo, Brazil

In spite of cooler temperatures that are expected to reduce mosquito activity, cases of dengue fever continue to increase across the state. From June 6 to 13, there were 22,800 new cases reported along with 23 deaths. The total for this year has reached 536,300 with 283 deaths.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
