Dengue fever deaths in Dominican Republic

So far this year, there have been 43 deaths due to dengue fever among the slightly more than 4,000 reported cases. The provinces with the highest number of cases include Santo Domingo, National District, Juan Sánchez Ramírez, San Cristóbal, La Vega, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel and Hermanas Mirabal.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
