Dengue fever deaths reported in Karachi, Pakistan

During 2014, there were 1,286 cases of dengue fever reported in Sindh province. However, nearly all of these (1,250) were reported by hospitals in Karachi. Fifteen deaths were registered. It is unlikely that dengue fever occurred mostly in Karachi and not elsewhere. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
