Dengue fever emergency declared in Trujillo, Peru

Authorities have declared a health emergency after more than 900 cases of dengue fever have been registered this year. Other affected regions include Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Junín, Cusco, Ucayali y San Martín.

Advice For Travellers

The risk of exposure to dengue fever can be high in areas where there is active transmission of this virus by local mosquitoes. All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
