Dengue fever epidemic in Taiwan now exceeds 20,000 cases

During the current epidemic of dengue fever in Taiwan, there have been more than 20,000 cases registered along with 89 deaths. Most of the problem is still in the southern part of the island, principally in the city of Tainan, where about 1 out of every 100 people has been infected.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
