Dengue fever in Brazil (update)

Over 1.5 million cases of dengue fever have been reported this year. Outbreaks and cases continue to be reported from Brasilia (Distrito Federal), and the states of Sao Paulo (Litoral), Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte), Para (Santarem, Belem, Parauapebas, Maraba, Ananindeua, Oriximina, and Ruropolis) and Mato Grosso (Cuiaba, Rondonopolis, Sinop, and Varzea Grande).

The actual number of cases is much greater than the reported number for several reasons. People with mild infections may not go to the doctor, or they may not have access to health care. Travellers can reduce the risk of infection with dengue fever by following all recommendations to avoid mosquito bites.
