The following countries are reporting outbreaks and sporadic cases of dengue fever:

Dominican Republic - 6,748 cases with 83 deaths
Puerto Rico - more than 1,300 cases
US Virgin Islands - 6 possible cases
French Guiana more than 1,250 cases
Guadeloupe - almost 50 cases
Martinique - almost 40 cases
St. Bartolome - approximately 16 cases
St. Martin - approximately 160 cases

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
