Dengue fever in Central America (update)

Honduras - recently, there have been 700 more dengue fever cases along with 14 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever.
Nicaragua - a total of 4,908 cases and 9 deaths have been reported so far.
Panama (Herrera Province) - in this province there have been 54 reported cases along with 4 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever.

There may be many more unreported cases of dengue since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
