Dengue fever in Central America (update)

Costa Rica - 14,284 cases; 3 deaths.
Honduras - Honduras is dealing with a serious nationwide outbreak. In addition to dengue fever cases, there have been reports of 1,568 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever.
Nicaragua - 1,543 cases with 4 deaths. The most affected provinces include Leon, Chinandega, Chontales, Masaya.

There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
