Dengue fever in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and nationwide

Following heavy rains and an increase in the mosquito population, the number of people infected with dengue has increased in the city compared to last year. So far more than 11,300 dengue cases have been reported this year.

As of the end of June, nationwide there were more than 36,600 cases of dengue including 11 deaths reported by 44 out of 63 provinces.

Advice For Travellers

The risk of exposure will vary from place to place and may be high in many localities.

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
