Dengue fever in India and Far East

Cases, deaths and outbreaks of dengue fever are being reported by the following countries and places:

India

  • Gujarat - the city of Ahmedabad has reported 836 cases.
  • Madhya Pradesh - the city of Indore has reported 145 cases.

Malaysia - nationwide there have been more than 95,000 reported cases during what has been an extraordinary level of dengue fever

Singapore - there have been 17,432 cases with 5 deaths.

Taiwan - with 13,919 reported cases and 17 deaths, Taiwan has experienced a major outbreak this year.

China - the province of Guangdong province has had the biggest epidemic of dengue fever in 20 years with more than 44,000 cases.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
