Dengue fever in Mato Grosso, Brazil, is double last year's cases

In the state of Mato Grosso, 75 of the 141 municipalities are reported to have high levels of dengue fever infections. In the past 8 months, there have been 22,773 dengue fever cases, more than double the amount registered for the same time period last year. Six people have died. The most affected municipalities include Sinop, Rondonópolis and Cuiabá.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
