Dengue fever in Mexico and Nicaragua (update)

Mexico

• Colima - 2,300 reported cases with 738 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever and 2 deaths.

• Morelos - 3,180 reported cases with 1,394 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever. The most affected municipalities include Cuautla. Nicaragua

• There have been 8,046 reported cases with 18 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever and 22 deaths.

Theremay be many more cases of dengue that are not reported. Counting and reporting allcases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Manypersons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areaswhere the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposureby taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
