Dengue fever in Mexico (update)

Cases, deaths and outbreaks continue to be reported from the following states:
National: 17,935 cases.

  • Hidalgo - 210 cases with 12 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever

  • Morelos - 1,178 cases with 514 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever. The most affected municipalities include Cuautla, Jiutepec, Ayala, and Emiliano Zapata.

  • Puebla - 644 cases.

  • Tamaulipas

    • Ciudad Madero - 42 cases in past week with 15 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever
    • Matamoros - 253 people in hospitals due to dengue fever.
    • Izucar - 260 cases

There may be many more unreported cases of dengue since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
