Dengue fever in Myanmar can be deadly

So far this year there have been more than 5,000 cases of dengue fever nationwide. In Yangon, however, there have been 988 patients with the severe form of dengue called dengue hemorrhagic fever and 4 patients have died. One affected state is Mon with more than 1,200 cases.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
