Dengue fever in Pakistan and India (update)

Pakistan - Two provinces in Pakistan continue to report the highest number of dengue fever cases and deaths.

  • Sindh - 5,242 cases with 31 deaths. Karachi is the most affected municipality.
India - Reports of dengue fever cases are widespread throughout most of the country. So far, a total of 5,387 cases have been reported from northern, southern and eastern provinces.

Many cases of dengue fever are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
