Dengue fever in Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan

Dengue fever cases and outbreaks are being reported from the following countries (localities)

Philippines (Caraga region) - 4,569 cases with at least 23 deaths; the most affected provinces include Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte.

Malaysia - total cases so far have reached 62,860 cases nationwide. Dengue is increasing in Kelantan, where there have been 8,219 cases and 12 deaths.

Taiwan - 876 cases with 2 deaths; highest number in many years.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
