Dengue fever in Taiwan reaching record levels

The dengue fever epidemic in Taiwan continues to grow with reported cases of this infection exceeding 16,000, a record level. Yesterday, there were 792 reported cases in a single day. The cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung continue to be the most affected areas, but various numbers of cases are being reported across the entire island.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
