Dengue fever increasing in Taiwan

So far this year, there have 162 confirmed cases of dengue fever, with 87 people infected while travelling abroad and 75 in Taiwan. Since May 13 there have been 61 more cases. The most affected area is Kaoshiung City. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
