Dengue Fever - increasing number of cases cause concern in Mindanao, Philippines

So far in 2012, 547 dengue cases have been reported with 4 deaths. This is a significant increase compared to last year. The most affected areas include: Tumaga, Tugbungan, San Roque, Tetuan, Guiwan and Sta. Maria.

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
