Dengue fever is a risk in Alagoas State, Brazil

With about 4,000 confirmed cases of dengue, 2,300 suspected cases and 1 death, there are 43 municipalities in the state of Alagoas that are at risk of major outbreaks. Although the number of cases is slightly less than last year, travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
