Dengue fever is increasing in Pakistan

Dengue fever cases are increasing in Pakistan where Punjab province registered 1,100 cases. In this province the most affected municipalities include Rawalpindi, Multan and Lahore.

In the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 160 people have been hospitalized due to dengue, while in Sindh province, there were 339 new cases just last week, bringing the total to 2,017 cases. The most affected municipality includes Karachi.

Advice

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
