Dengue fever is increasing in Taiwan

Reports of dengue fever cases continue to increase in Taiwan. In Tainan, in southern Taiwan there were 102 new dengue fever cases last week, a new high for the same period in nearly a decade. An additional 10 cases were reported in Kaohsiung and one each in Chiayi and Pingtung counties. Nationwide, the total has reached 330 cases.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
