Dengue fever is now reported by many jurisdictions in India

Reports of dengue fever infections are increasing with new cases identified in Delhi, Ahmedabad (Gujarat state), Bengaluru (Karnataka state), Jammu region (Kashmir state), Chandigarh (Punjab and Haryana states), Mumbai (Maharashtra state), Balasore (Odisha state), Amritsar, Bathinda, Ludhiana and Mohali (Punjab state), Rajasthan state, Telangana state, Balurghat and Kolkata (West Bengal state).

Nationwide, there have been 277,000 reported cases with 60 deaths.

Advice

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
