Dengue fever is spreading in Penang area, Malaysia

So far this year, there have been 1,303 dengue cases and 5 deaths registered in Penang. This number is significantly greater than the number recorded for the same time period last year. The most affected areas include Perkampungan Valdor, Seberang Perai, Jalan Lim Lean Teng, Flat Sri Bayu and Bandar Baru Teluk Kumbar.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
