Dengue fever outbreaks continue in multiple states in Brazil (summary)

Dengue fever cases, deaths and outbreaks continue to be reported from multiple states in Brazil, including the following: Bahia, Ceará, Paraiba, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. With nearly 125,000 cases, the state of Riod de Janeiro is heavily affected. There may be many unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
